Jane Honor captures the glow of new love in ‘Nothing You Can Do’

There’s nothing quite like the sunny optimism at the start of a new relationship – you can’t help but imagine the limitless possibilities, the adventures to come, and the many “firsts” to look forward to. Celebrating this precious, fleeting experience is NYC-born, LA-based singer-songwriter Jane Honor who channels that joy and vulnerability into her radiant slice of soft-pop single ‘Nothing You Can Do’. It’s such a warm, dreamy track thanks to the fluid arrangements of guitars, horns and live drums, all of which set the tone for Jane’s expressive pop vocals. With production from longtime collaborator Neil Wogensen, there’s subtle touches of 60s and 70s analog nostalgia, which the artist idolises as a golden era of pop songwriting, and the live instrumentation adds even more organic textures.

Inspired by the early days of her own relationship, the magic charm of ‘Nothing You Can Do’ lies in its sincerity. That fusion between vintage and modern elements validates the timelessness of love, which Jane sings about with such a heart-on-sleeve openness that you can’t help but be swept up into this feel-good aura. This theme of love will carry on over into Jane’s upcoming EP, a project which acts as a letter to both her partner and her life, and we’re already so excited to hear what else is next. ‘Nothing You Can Do’ is a retro-inspired pop gem.

“I wrote this song at the beginning of my current relationship. I had a gut feeling it would last, and this song is about the mutual love we felt early on. It is happy, upbeat, and has a 60s influence to it while still sounding current. As I’m going through my early 20s I’m discovering more about love and life as a whole, and in this project I am really reflecting on that. The sound I’ve cultivated is inspired by the 60s and 70s music I grew up on, and the modern indie-pop music I’ve recently discovered.”
