Joshu makes his ‘way back home’ through acoustic ripples and melodic waves

From Joshu’s new EP, way back home, the title-track is a breathtakingly intimate folk ballad that carries the warmth of a setting sun over tranquil Caribbean waters. With delicate fingerpicked guitar melodies reminiscent of Avert Francis and Elliott Smith, the song gently pulls listeners into a reflective journey of self-discovery and belonging. Joshu’s voice, hushed yet profoundly expressive, embodies a quiet vulnerability that lingers long after the final note fades.

There’s a wistful nostalgia woven into the fabric of ‘way back home,’ evoking images of ocean breezes and golden shores. The song’s minimalist instrumentation allows each lyric to land with weight and sincerity, as Joshu contemplates the concept of home, identity, and the ties that pull us back to our roots. His songwriting, both poetic and deeply personal, shines as he crafts an auditory embrace for anyone longing for connection. Fans of Jack Johnson and Ben Howard will find solace in Joshu’s soothing compositions, but his unique take on modern folk sets him apart. This track is a poignant centerpiece in an EP that feels like a heartfelt letter to the past, the present, and the places we call home.

“On the open ocean, time blurs into itself. I played the song over and over again, letting it evolve naturally over many days. It became a crucible for all the grief, hope, and surrender I was feeling. By the time we reached Antigua, I had not only a finished song but also the foundation for the entire EP.”
