Chapters is the powerful debut ablum from Finnish multi-disciplinary artist Conchis

Finnish multi-disciplinary artist Conchis recently released her debut album, Chapters, which is a mesmerizing sonic journey that delves into the depths of human emotion. She weaves together electronica, folk, and experimental sounds to create a truly unique listening experience. Partially shaped by the challenges of a Chronic Fatigue Syndrome diagnosis, the album is also symbolic of the power of resilience. For example, Conchis could only do five vocal takes per song due to her limited energy, which has resulted in a raw and honest album that captures the essence of vulnerability.

From the contemplative opening track, ‘Trees Grow Higher’,to the urgent plea of focus track ‘Floods’, Conchis takes listeners on a thematic, emotional and cognitive rollercoaster. The focus track, with its Fever Ray-inspired intensity, is an unhibited statement about environmental neglect. Here the artist’s vocals, echoing like a siren’s call, add a haunting beauty to the march-like rhythm. Additionally, ‘She Was Born’ is a poignant tribute to her late mother, while ‘Cray Cray’ and ‘Stories’ offer glimpses into her own internal struggles. Overall, Conchis’ innovative soundscapes and raw honesty throughout Chapters create a space for introspection and empathy.
