Known for her feisty work in the Aussie folk band All Our Exes Live In Texas, Katie Wighton’s solo stuff is just as captivating. Her new tune ‘Real Thing’ is a chill, yet emotional rollercoaster. It’s got this cool, dreamy guitar sound mixed with playful keys and a groovy drumbeat.
Jatie Wighton’s voice is strong and full of character, with some sweet harmonies thrown in for good measure. The song’s about the ups and downs of life, but it’s got a sunny, hopeful vibe. It’s not your average happy-go-lucky ditty; it’s more like a feel-good anthem about being human.
Katie says the track is about “the ups and downs and all-arounds”. It’s about those crazy holidays, the tears and the make-up kisses, and real love. And you know what? She nailed it. This song is a breath of fresh air. Give it a listen and let it work its magic.
“It felt so good to write a happy song for once in my life! Real Thing is not about sugarcoating things though. It’s about the ups and downs and all-arounds. It’s about the holidays in Canada and the trips to Ireland; the tears and the makeup kisses; it’s about real love. My partner produced this song which made it all the more special. Writing the chorus of this song didn’t take long at all. I have been playing a LOT in open D tuning in the last couple of years and this is no different. The verses took me a little longer – I tried so hard to make them personal and not too cheesy.”
