In their latest release, “Finite,” The Formalist, composed of Stephen Krieger and Erik Laroi, presents a poignant meditation on the fleeting nature of life. As the duo navigates the uncertainties of early 2020, “Finite” emerges as a solemn exploration of existence and the profound impact of those we cherish. Laroi’s evocative vocals, paired with Krieger’s atmospheric production, create a mesmerizing fusion of sound and emotion, inviting listeners to reflect on their internal worlds with gentle intimacy. With intricate guitar melodies, haunting synth textures, and a raw intensity in Laroi’s delivery, “Finite” showcases The Formalist’s collaborative chemistry and their ability to craft an emotionally resonant sonic experience.
“We think ‘Finite’ is in some ways the most personal or intimate song on the album. We were first writing it during that period of time in New York in early Covid, when people were worried about what could happen. It was a fragile time, and it was like everyone in New York felt like they were at risk of losing people, or had lost someone.” – The Formalist
