Encapsulating the essence of emotional and musical evolution, becoming a beacon of self-realization, Mackenta shares her new single ‘FLYING’. The song is the pinnacle of her cosmic new EP, LIFE ON VENUS. As an artist, Mackenta magnificently intertwines alternative R&B with soulful notes, creating a stirring musical journey that not only resonates but empowers. Throughout her music, she lays herself bare, delving into the nightlife, love, heartbreak, and the often male-dominated music scene in Toronto.
Her EP is a spectrum of experiences, mirroring the complexity of being a woman. ‘FLYING’ leads the charge, an ethereal soundscape where her vocals and lyrics are a potent concoction of liberation, self-acceptance, and ambition. The narrative of the track sprouts from an empowering self-realization, an acknowledgement of her untapped potential. This songwriting shift from a place of frustration to one of positive affirmation paints a vivid picture of an artist in command of her own story. Mackenta’s skill in capturing the multifaceted experiences of womanhood, from grace to rage, strength to vulnerability, stands out. It’s not just music; it’s an unfiltered portrayal of the feminine experience.
In ‘FLYING,’ Mackenta not only finds her wings but sets a stage for others to embrace their vulnerabilities and strengths. The EP, overall, is a testament to her growth and provides an authentic space for all who listen, offering an array of emotions and experiences woven into the fabric of genuine artistry.
“I wrote “Flying” about manifestation and following your dreams. I wrote it at a time when I wasn’t actually feeling very empowered but I was trying to do a lot of affirmations and self-work to change that. I realized a lot of the songs I usually write are expressing frustration and I rarely wrote when I was feeling positive. A lot of my songs are me venting, but that doesn’t cover the full spectrum of emotions I experience. So I tried a different approach of writing about how I want to feel, if it was a perfect day. I started channeling an inner part of what felt like my untapped potential. It’s now one of my favourite songs that I’ve written thus far because it represents me making the decision to stand in my confidence. Since writing it I’ve experienced a lot of what I wrote about, and more often. I believe our words have a lot of power and I wanted to channel that into a positive direction.”
