Introducing Icelandic grunge-folk band SoundThing, consisting of guitarist and songwriter Hjörleif Björnsson, singer/songwriter Ásta Sigríði Sveinsdóttir, bass player, songwriter and singer Erla Stefánsdóttir and Valtýr Sigurðsson, drummer and songwriter. We had the wonderful opportunity to chat to this talented artists below, tune in to find out all about SoundThing.

Hey SoundThing, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today. What influences have gone into your sound recently?

I would say that our influences comes mainly from classic music such as rythm and blues, djazz, country and Indie music. It´s hard to name certain bands because we the members of SoundThing listen to alot of different things, we are so diverse and when we come together we just blend it all together.

What are you currently working on?

We are currently working on our LP which is set to be published in the spring of 2024. Alot of interesting, odd and cool things we are doing on this record and we are taking the EP feel way further and experimenting with alot of things. Stay Tuned.

Any top tips for getting through writers block?

Writers block is something that happens to every artist. The thing I (Hjörleifur) have found to be most useful in such times is to be patient and have trust in my intuition. If I am negative about it, it only makes it worse.

What is your favourite thing about being an artist?

My favorite thing about being an artist is to have an outlet to express myself. I find that music is perfect about me because there are so many different things I can use to create an atmosphere and to tell stories.

Who would be a dream collaboration and why?

We are still molding our selves and finding our ways to do our music so right now our dream collaborator are us together.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

We are very busy right now promoting and introducing our new EP Bleed to the world. We are also hitting the studio and recording our LP which will be our first in line of many hopefully. So the rest of the year is very busy for us in SoundThing. 

What are you calling in for 2024?

2024 is a very exciting year for us because we are publishing our first LP which is taking over our lifes at the moment. We are also planning to play some live events, so we are very excited about 2024.
