After the resounding success of ‘Scatterbrain’, rising star Emei’s trajectory is unstoppable with latest release ‘Don’t Know About The World’. It’s a sprawling left-pop masterpiece that showcases the artist’s ethereal vocals set against a backdrop of shapeshifting production. In a world marked by distrust and bitterness, the lyrics convey a longing for the safety and solace found in a loved one or a cherished space. This single, a sappy yet authentic love song, serves as a departure from her previous work, offering a glimpse into Emei’s emotional world. It’s a beautifully crafted ambient introduction to her upcoming EP, promising to enchant and resonate with listeners.
“I moved to LA about a year and a half ago, and the past bit has been a lot of learning and growing and realizing how hard it is to trust the people around you. There’s so much hate and bitterness in the world and sometimes I just wanna stay home with that person I love and avoid everything outside our windows. Don’t know about the world is a song about feeling safe and finding solace in that one person (or space or thing). I don’t often write about love, so finding a way to create a sappy authentic love song that still could live on this project was more difficult than you’d think. I wanted this last single to be a bit of a left turn from my previous singles. I wanted the song to be a window into my emotional world. Once Boyblue and I figured out how to have the song still filled with the vocal harmonies and ear candy I adore, everything fell into place, and it became the ambient introduction to my sophomore EP.“

“My girlfriend said she loved me after 3 weeks of dating and I was trying to prove to her that what she felt was lust and not love. I said, ‘You know nothing about me,’ and she said, ‘I know your favourite colour is red, you didn’t walk until you were two because everyone kept picking you up, and I don’t know if they’re your favourite – but I know for sure you like Sunflowers’. The moment she said that I knew it would make a catchy song. So, ‘Sunflowers’ discusses the point in a relationship right after someone says ‘I love you’ where you’re feeling like they don’t know you well enough to express those emotions. It unpacks the moment you’re being proven wrong as they highlight facts about you which you thought they never listened to.”
