Portland’s Meekha is known for her unique covers, however, she has just released a stunning original track – ‘Young’. The new single is a catchy pop bop with layered vocals and a rousing hook. She chatted to us about how it came about and what’s on the horizon.

Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Meekha and I’m a Pop singer/songwriter from Portland, Oregon.
I knew I wanted to be a performer at 11 years old, but I was so shy I spent all of my
teen years singing in my room, imitating my favorite singers. I began writing poetry
and songs in high school knowing in the back of my mind that music is the only
career I would ever pursue even though my after-school activities were always
athletics- dancing, running, cheering and basketball. I went on to get my bachelor’s
degree in Music Business and as soon as I graduated, I began my music career and
I’ve never been more fulfilled in my life than creating my debut EP.

Where did the new single come from?

This song “young” has been building up in the back of my mind since I was young
myself, and fell in love with the movie, Peter Pan. I always wanted to escape to
Neverland and was completely uninterested in growing up. Then when I became an
adult, I realized that youth, once you do grow up, can be a state of mind and you
don’t have to lose that child-like wonder within. I knew I wanted to tell this story on
my debut EP because it means so much to me and I think it can to many people too.
I told this to my producers, Matt Heath and Gray Griggs, and together we created the
first single on my EP!

Is there more content in the pipeline?

Definitely. This is the first single from my debut EP, Mercury In Retrograde. More
singles will be released soon followed by the whole record early next year.

What’s on the horizon for you?

The rest of this year is all about me working on these single releases and visuals to
go with them. And keep a lookout for the whole EP early next year!
