Hey, tell us a bit about yourself
I’m a singer songwriter from Wellington, New Zealand and have been touring internationally for the past 4 or 5 years. For as long as I can remember music has played a big role in my life. I have vivid memories of being a listener and observer of music when I was very young, and then took to playing it later on around 12yo. I initially started by learning the guitar, transcribing solo’s and guitar riffs from the greats, straight off the record. Using my ears, being creative, and teaching myself new things. When I was around the age of 17 I started to sing after hearing D’angelo and Curtis Mayfield. They inspired me. They made me feel something new. It excited me then, and continues to now in the same way but through a different lens.
Where did the new single come from?
My latest single ‘Gave It All Away’ was written while I was on tour in the UK last. It sort of fell out of me. in a way. I wrote it in around 15 minutes back in my hotel room after one of my shows. I was exhausted after being on the road by myself for some months. It’s one of those songs that’s about carving out your own groove, blazing your own trail, and being determined to make your dreams a reality. It’s about the courage and resilience it takes to overcome the day to day hurdles in trying to do your own thing.
Is there more content in the pipeline?
My brand new single ‘Addict’ is out in a couple of months, and I’ve already started setting my sights on my first album. I have been writing a lot of songs which are now being processed and chosen for the album. Some of these songs were written abroad in LA and London, and some at home here in New Zealand. I’m very excited about what the future holds.
What’s on the horizon for you?
Life is beautiful and ever-changing, so it’s always about refreshing and renewing your determinations each day. I’m now thinking about the canvas and colour palette of the album. The over all sonic feel and production, and who I want to play on it. There will be a tour in NZ later this year, and more shows and festivals to be booked. It’s all forward momentum, and I am so fortunate to be able to do what I do.
