Hey SAPPHIRE, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today. Could you tell us a little known fact about yourself?
I’m really tall, like 5’3” tall.
‘The Last Thing’ is described as one of your favourite songs you’ve ever written, so what makes this track so special to you personally?
It’s just so much fun, and I love creating music that makes people FEEL something, and this song for me feels like running at full pace in the rain which is an un-topped feeling in my opinion.
What inspired that narrative of love against the odds?
Being in love!
The song features one of your trademark turns of phrase: “if it’s the last thing that I do.” How do you approach taking familiar sayings and transforming them into something powerful in your music?
I don’t know I think it just felt SO good to scream at the top of my lungs, like that one scene in a rom-com where they’re in the rain and they confess their undying love to each other.
What was your vision for the production, and how did you want listeners to feel when hearing it?
The vision was literally just the idea of being able to run really really fast in the sand or something to it, with a huge build and things like that. It was also really important to me production-wise that it would translate to a stage with lots of power and excitement.
How does it translate on stage compared to in the studio?
SO much better to perform this on stage, it feels like that’s what it was made for.
What’s next for the project?
More music! And I’m so excited to share it all.
