Inspired by Easy Life, daste’s new track ‘Colours’ is the vivid, love-injected utopia

Following the success of their previous track ‘Around’, Australian trio daste. have once again enchanted the music world with their latest single ‘Colours’, a vibrant alt-pop gem inspired by the UK band Easy Life. From the very start, this track invites listeners into a love-injected utopia where every note is drenched in vivid hues. The song’s origin story adds depth to its charm. Callum MacDonald, captivated by Easy Life’s ability to paint mental pictures through lyrics, used their style as a springboard for his own creative exploration. This lyrical exercise quickly blossomed into something more when bandmate Braxton joined in, infusing the track with fresh verses and an array of shimmering vocals that truly brought the song to life.

The final mix, enriched by their friend Jim Alxndr’s soulful saxophone contributions, elevates ‘Colours’ to an ethereal realm. The track’s evolution over the months reflects in its polished, sonically lush production, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that’s both immersive and invigorating. daste.’s knack for blending introspective lyrics with buoyant melodies ensures that their music not only resonates but also paints vivid pictures in the minds of their audience. ‘Colours’ a delightful prelude to what promises to be a spectacular album, set for early 2025.

“When I started writing ‘Colours’ back in 2023, I was obsessed over the UK group EasyLife, and loved the way they used their lyrics to paint pictures and transport you to different places in your mind. Listening to them for so long encouraged me to think outside the box with lyrics within our own music and I started this song as an exercise to improve myself in that aspect. A few weeks later, I was with Braxton, going through demos I had been making and once he heard ‘Colours’ he immediately wanted to work on it, helping add a new verse, and so many shiny vocals throughout the choruses. He really provided the song with the“colour”it needed; no pun intended. Fast forward a few months and the song has grown sonically, and lyrically, into a love injected utopia where everything is saturated in colours and the mood is always just right. We were blessed to collaborate with our good friend Jim Alxndr who played saxophone throughout and provided the final mix.”
