Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.
Hello! My name is IMLAY. I’m a South Korean Electronic Music DJ / Producer who makes FutureBass and Trap beats infusing East Asian scale and influences.
Where did the new single/EP come from?
Continuing the theme developed in my first EP, “Origin,” I further explored the concept of my heritage but tried to push it further. Recently, I’ve been fascinated by the concept of Yin and Yang, which means black and white (bright and dark). I attempted to integrate the idea of contrast, balance, and harmony embodied in the notion of Yin and Yang into the Shurai EP.
The concept of East and West was also important to me, and I’m extremely proud to have worked with talented songwriters/vocalists from the US – Laura Brehm and Anna Yvette – as well as a rising songwriter/vocalist from Korea, YESEO. I am very grateful for SM Entertainment’s new EDM Label, ScreaM Records, for helping this idea come to reality!
Is there more content in the pipeline?
A music video version two for the title track, “Shurai” is coming soon. It’s based on footages from my performance at legendary Korean festival, 2017 Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival.
What’s on the horizon for you?
I hope to introduce Asian Electronic Music to the world. My goal is to solidify a crew with talented musicians from Asia. There is a lot of new talents from this region!
