Chatterbox: Layla Mora

Hey, tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m a singer-songwriter from London, Ontario. I’ve been writing music since I was very young, throughout the years I’ve been playing coffee houses and what not. Recently I decided to take my sound into a new direction. From acoustic, folky, pop to more of an electric, R&B vibe, which is a pretty big jump. The shift came as a surprise, I think, to those who have followed my music but the sound I’m going for now is the type of music I’ve admired for a while and I finally made the decision to go with what I felt was the next step.

Where did the new single come from?

Crazily enough, this song was a perfect mistake. My friend, UNBLOOM, was playing around with some sounds for another project and ended up creating this cool instrumental. The lyrical content is something that stemmed from a personal experience. It was a development from a previous song I had written; a part two if you will. I knew I wanted to apologize to this person for how I had treated them but also let them know how I had been feeling about everything. It’s nice to be able to express that through this song.

Is there more content in the pipeline?

There’s quite a bit coming soon in the next few months. I have some stuff in the works with UNBLOOM but I also have my own songs that have been slowly coming to fruition.

What’s on the horizon for you?

I’m looking into live performances and how to achieve that with this new sound. I’m used to acoustic shows with just me and my guitar but this stuff needs more than that. I’m excited to see what we can do. I’m also just enjoying this experience in general.
